Overview

Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW)

For hard facing with excellent abrasion resistance and mild impact resistance, forming ultra-hard silicon and chrome carbide deposits.

Quick Specs

  • Diameters: 3/32" (70A), 1/8" (95A)
  • Use AC or DCEP (±20% of recommended settings)
  • Apply medium heat with stringer beads; avoid color change in base metal
  • Limit total deposit to two passes to avoid excess brittleness
  • Use Olympia A or Apollo A as a buffer/build-up layer on worn parts

Applications

  • Earth-cutting and digging tools, crusher hammers and rolls
  • Sand and gravel handling equipment, dragline buckets and teeth
